Their first location, the one in Śródka, closed down at the end of March 2019. Nowadays, La Ruina & Raj operate in St. Martin Street, and the atmosphere is just as casual as it’s ever been. The interior is brimming with colours and energy: stuccos beside raw red brick, industrial ceiling reflectors, square wall clocks, each showing a different time, and a collection of hats from around the world. Over the long couch lining one of the walls is a copy of a mural from the Pelé the Kisser series (the original can be found in São Paulo’s Beco do Batman – it shows the famous football player embracing Ringo Starr against the backdrop of the title of the song ‘With a Little Help from My Friends’). The menu hides original dishes inspired by international cuisine. The owners, Monika and Jan, created it based on their favourite flavours experienced while traveling around the world. The offering includes pad thai, Peruvian burger, Arab fattoush or Italian testaroli. Ask the staff for a surprise dish. Dessert is a must, more so if they happen to be serving Monika’s cheesecake. Worth noting: descriptions given to dishes are a read worthy of a dedicated visit.
