The Principovac summer residence of the aristocratic Odescalchi family, built in 1864, is located near Ilok, on a hill which offers a beautiful view of vineyards, orchards, the town of Ilok and the Danube, as well as Srijem and Bačka in neighbouring Serbia. This lovely place, which also offers several accommodation units and a few sports grounds (for tennis, volleyball, badminton, as well as a small golf course), is a perfect place for team building activities or wedding dinners. The property also houses a restaurant with a gorgeous outdoor terrace and a panoramic elevator inside the castle will take you to the small observation platform to further enjoy the great views. The menu features interesting dishes, which are a mix of local, autochthonous ingredients prepared in a modern way. We decided to try a special menu, namely the freshly made and well seasoned fish cakes and a variation of homemade pasta with cracklings and stewed cabbage. We also ordered traditionally prepared vineyard snails, served on rock salt, and for the main course we chose the tender chicken breast in Grasevina (Welschriesling) wine, and pork cutlets ”vine dresser” style, served with soft semolina dumplings. Naturally, the dishes were paired with the famous Ilok Grasevina from the surrounding vineyards, while the desserts, a fusion of the traditional and the modern, such as honeycomb in vanilla sauce and poppy seeds, were paired with their globally famous Traminac.
